Skin Reactions

Infections resulting from the standard conduct of an EarWell™ procedure are rare. The only reported incidents are limited to yeast infection following the untreated entry of milk or “spit-up” into the interior of the device. Parents should be instructed to protect the Cradle from this type of spillage. If it does occur, they should be directed to return for examination and Cradle cleaning.

If redness from skin abrasions is seen, the internal component (Retractor and/or Conchal Former) causing the abrasion is moved or removed, and the irritated area treated with topical bacitracin ointment. Once the skin heals, treatment can be resumed—typically in a couple of days. (See Superficial Skin Irritations).

Antibiotic creams that do not contain neomycin should be used to avoid sensitization and development of allergic reactions to the neomycin.
