How long should the adhesive hold the device in place?
The adhesive has been designed to hold the Cradle to the skin until natural epithelial turnover and separation begins. In infants, that period is approximately two weeks. Becon does not recommend removing the device until natural separation begins to occur.
What should be done if the device prematurely separates from the skin?
The adhesive may prematurely separate from the skin; however, that event should rarely occur. If it happens more frequently, attention should be given to a thorough reading of the Retention section of the Troubleshooting page that comprehensively examines the topic. Becon also recommends a review of the EarWell™ Training Video segment on Skin Preparation.
Can the device get wet?
Although water will damage neither the device nor the adhesive bond, the ear and the device should be kept as dry as possible. The scalp and area around the ear should only be cleansed with a damp washcloth. Immersion should always be avoided. If milk or “spit up” gets inside the Cradle, the physician should be contacted to allow removal of the Anterior Shell and a thorough cleansing. This generally does not require premature removal of the Posterior Shell.
