Questions Raised by Parents

Will the Conchal Former affect my child’s hearing?

No, the Conchal Former has perforations and a front opening that permit the admission of sound waves. Its presence will not affect hearing while the device is on the child or after it is removed.

Is EarWell™ uncomfortable or will it interfere my child’s sleep?

EarWell™ is painless and will not interfere with the child’s sleep. No special adjustments or precautions need to be taken with the child’s sleeping position.

Does EarWell™ affect nursing?

EarWell™ should not impact nursing. Becon recommends that a soft cloth be strategically placed during feeding to prevent milk from entering the cradle.

Is it necessary to shave my child’s hair?

Yes. The adhesive bond is totally ineffective unless attached directly to the skin. Hair beneath the adhesive allows motion which can cause undesirable irritation and failure to hold the internal components in their proper position.

What causes ear deformity?

Most abnormalities occur in the upper third of the ear and are caused by fetal ear development. It is often a direct failure of the tissue to properly migrate. Some other anomalies may be a result of in utero positioning and others may be genetically driven (e.g. prominent ears).

Is the procedure painful to the child?

No. The child may cry during the application but not because there is any pain.

Why does EarWell™ work?

It is generally believed that EarWell™ will work to correct the shape of a deformed ear because the infant retains circulating maternal estrogens for a period of time after birth. It is also believed that the presence of those estrogens increases the production of hyaluronic acids in the child, which maintains ear malleability by relaxing the ear cartilage. As the estrogens leave the child’s system, the ear cartilage gradually becomes more rigid. EarWell™ positions the ear properly while the cartilage solidifies.
