Preemies or underweight babies (less than 4.5 pounds) have been successfully treated with EarWell™.
The dilemma has been the child’s chronological age upon reaching the minimum application weight of
4 pounds or the age upon release from NICU. Neither typically complies with the 3-week, post-natal standard
recommendation for initiating EarWell therapy.
Years of observation suggest that these key clinical points can be adopted for applying EarWell™
to preemies:
- Use gestational age as opposed to chronological age
- Initiate treatment if the child is below 43 weeks gestational age
- Begin EarWell treatment only after reaching 4 pound minimal weight
- The duration of treatment is identical to that of full-term infants
- Outcomes should be consistent with those of full-term infants
