When lidding presents as a malformation (missing skin or cartilage), its appearance may be similar or the same as deformational lidding (no missing tissue). The characteristics of lidding when presenting as a malformation are:
- A tethering and resistance to reshaping due to missing tissue
- Absence of the entire superior crus with some degree of missing skin in the scapha or along the scapha-helical rim junction (Tanzer I and II Lop Ear)
- A “purse string” deficiency along the helical rim, creating the “lop” or folding over of the rim (See Cup Ear Malformation)
- Longer and more aggressive interval of EarWellâ„¢ therapy
