Prominent Ear Lobe

Prominence of the ear lobe is generally secondary to a combination of factors:

  • An inward tilting of the antitragus
  • Overgrowth of the posterior (vertical) conchal wall
  • An increased conchal-mastoid angle

All of these factors are cartilaginous in origin and are often associated with cup ear, constricted ear or prominent ear.

Successful treatment requires management of the underlying cartilaginous components (See Technical Variations Constricted Ear) for which the insertion of the Conchal Former is necessary (Conchal Former).

Taping the earlobe has been done but is insufficient as a standalone treatment.
